Automatic Transport System to be installed in Kochi, for the first time in India.
Kochi is likely to become the first city in the country to implement an automated transport system based on global positioning system. The GPRS-based transport system will help visitors to the city to identify locations of their interest and their destinations. Once the system is implemented, visitors will be able to access route maps and calculate distances to the spots they want to visit.
With ATS, motorists who come from other destinations, will find it easy to locate the exact places they want to visit. Cars fitted with GPS will get information about the places and location they would want to go. Vehicle owners can subscribe to the service on an annual or permanent basis.
Iniaitally, the ATS would be installed in ten different locations across the city of Cochin. If found feasible in Kochi, we will consider the setting up of ATS across Ernakulam district
